Meet Meida, a freshman from Downers Grove, IL, whose journey from doubting her abilities in science to embracing a physics major is nothing short of remarkable. Initially, she struggled with math and science, feeling she wasn’t ‘science/math brained.’ However, her curiosity and passion for understanding the world led her to embrace these subjects. “I used to hate math and anything science because I thought that I wasn’t ‘science/math brained’,” she admits. However, her passion for understanding the world around her led her to embrace the challenge. “I fell in love with how physics really makes you think differently and understand our surroundings better,” she explains.
Building a Strong Foundation
To ensure a strong start at Boston University, Meida is currently taking math and astronomy classes at the College of DuPage, building a solid foundation for her physics major. Despite the challenges, Meida is determined to succeed and is easing herself into college life with a manageable course load.
While not yet involved in any on-campus activities, Meida looks forward to exploring opportunities once she starts at Boston University. She is also still figuring out her career goals. “I don’t have a clear view of my career goals because I am trying to figure out whether or not I’d like to pursue an advanced degree or enter the workforce,” she says.
Outside of her academic pursuits, Meida enjoys photography, skateboarding, and napping with her dog. She also has a keen interest in art and psychology, finding joy in creating art and exploring the human mind.
Advice to Future Green Halo Scholars
Being a Green Halo Scholar has been transformative for Meida. The program has not only guided her through the application process but also provided invaluable support in navigating college life. “Green Halo has impacted my experience immensely,” she says. Meida’s advice to future Green Halo Scholars is both motivational and relatable: “We’re all experiencing this life at the same time. The people who seem to have it all together might be just as lost as you are. Don’t assume you’re the only one who isn’t qualified enough. I was crazy enough to think I had a chance at anything, and now I’m pursuing a life I want instead of a life I was ‘meant’ for.”
Meida’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the support of the Green Halo Scholars program. Her story encourages future scholars to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination. Stay tuned for more on Meida’s story next semester when she starts at Boston University!
