Mike Murphy

Mike Murphy is an adjunct instructor of finance at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. Mike recently retired from a 30-year career in business and finance. In 2002, he co-founded Discovery Group, a private fund management company. Mike earned an MBA from Chicago Booth and a BS in Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mike has a long track record of contributing to higher education causes. His current role as the Director of the Investment Management Academy at the Gies College of Business prepares undergraduate students for careers in finance by providing practical work experience in an experiential program that manages $1.5 million for the University endowment. In the summer, he can be found in the Midwest cycling frequently, and in the winter skiing and guiding in Colorado.
